A new Porteño Group tapas bar takes over the old Stanbuli site

If there’s one thing that will raise Sydney’s collective heart rate, it’s the news that the Porteño Group is opening a new location. This time, the team is repurposing the former Stanbuli site, which closed in April 2022. (Don’t worry, you can still get Chef Ibrahim Kasif’s exceptional food at Nomad’s cool little sister, Beau.)

Now, the heritage-listed pink and purple facade will house Bar Louise, a Spanish-style tapas bar, opening in September.

The all-star lineup includes Porteño founders Ben Milgate, Elvis Abrahanowicz and Joe Valore, as well as Mikey Nicolean of the Continental Deli. At the head of the kitchen Marcelo Munoz comes from the OG Porteño, Bastardo, and most recently the Continental, with longtime deli veteran and P&V wine legend Melvin Haxaire-Christophe walking in front of the house from day to day.

The group’s hospitality, with extraordinary styling by Sarah Doyle, practically ensures that this new venture will bring elegance, top-notch service, great drinks and most importantly, deliciousness back to the Enmore block.

We love Sydney’s food scene, and we think you do too. Here we count the ways.
