Wyndham Council has announced the finalists for the 2022 Art Prize.
More than 560 artworks from more than 360 artists were submitted for submission, and a variety of media were used, including painting, drawing, printing, photography, sculpture, and video.
Cr Marcel Mahfoud, holder of Wyndham Council’s creative portfolio, said the entries covered many different themes.
“The standouts were responses to the pandemic and the exploration of gender, identity and place,” said Cr Mahfoud.
Eighty-four short-listed works of art will be featured in the Wyndham Art Prize exhibit, on view Thursday, June 2 through Sunday, August 7 at the Wyndham Art Gallery.
Cr Mahfoud said the exhibition will “delight” and “move” viewers.
“Many of the artworks are expressive and evoke a sense of cultural pride that will resonate with Wyndham residents. Entries from fourteen Wyndham artists will compete for the Local Emerging Art Prize.”
The 2022 award winners will be selected by an outside panel of artists and curators, including Maree Clarke, Haylet Millar Baker and Andy Butler.
