Bezos: Disinformation Board Must Investigate Biden Tweet

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos criticized President Biden for a tweet the president wrote suggesting that taxing wealthier companies could help curb inflation, calling the lumping together of the two topics a “deception.”

“Do you want to reduce inflation? Let’s make sure the richest companies pay their fair share,” Biden tweeted on fridaynight.

“The newly created Disinformation Board should review this tweet, or maybe they should form a new Non Sequitur Board instead. Raising corporate tax is perfectly negotiable. Taming inflation is critical to discuss. Putting them together is just deception, “Bezos shot backquoted Biden’s statement on the platform.

Since the announcement of the Department of Homeland Security’s disinformation board last month, the new board has sparked the ire of some Republicans who have called it the “Department of Truth” and claimed it would censor free speech.

Bezos’s comments come as inflation in the United States has reached its 40-year high amid labor shortages and supply chain problems, the latest of which has plagued the baby food industry.

Amazon has also been repeatedly criticized by Democrats for not paying more taxes. Biden criticized the company earlier in March last year, saying it and other companies had paid zero income taxes.

CNBC reported that Amazon paid $162 million in federal taxes in 2019, but it has not owed any taxes to the federal government since 2016.

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, Amazon’s bill rose to $1.8 billion in federal taxes in 2020, a figure likely to rise under a plan by Biden to set a minimum corporate tax rate.
