Burnaby RCMP seeks driver seen committing indecent act

Police in Burnaby are asking the public for help identifying a man who masturbated while driving in the city on Thursday.

The indecent act happened around 3:55 p.m. while the man’s vehicle was stopped at a red light on Lougheed Highway near Gaglardi Way, according to a Burnaby RCMP press release.

A teenager who was a passenger on a westbound bus 136 saw the suspect and recorded a video of him, which has been shared with police.

Mounties shared two images of the man on Friday with their statement and they are asking the public for help identifying him.

Police described the suspect as a white man of “medium to heavy build” who appears to be about 50 years old. He was wearing a black jacket with white stripes and “looked like he wasn’t wearing pants,” police said, adding that he was exposed “from his waist to his knees.”

Investigators are seeking additional evidence, including other video footage from the area, as the teen’s video “captured no image of the suspect’s vehicle or license plate,” RCMP said.

The only description police could give of the vehicle Friday was that it “appears to be gray”.

Officers are interested in talking to other passengers who were on the bus at the time of the incident, police said.

“This is worrying behavior,” said Cpl. Alexa Hodgins, in the release. “Police want the public to be aware of this incident and report similar activities.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999 and quote file number 22-15593.
