Cameron Diaz comes out of retirement for Netflix film with Oscar winner

Cameron Diaz is coming out of retirement.

The 49-year-old actress, who retired from acting in 2018, will star in the upcoming Netflix film “Back in Action” alongside Jamie Foxx, 54.

Foxx shared the news on Twitter Tuesday, along with a taped phone conversation between the “Charlie’s Angels” star and Tampa Bay Buccaneer’s quarterback Tom Brady, who knows a thing or two about not retiring.

Netflix confirmed the project to The Post, and a representative for Diaz told The Post that the “project is underway, but there is no release date yet.” The Post has also reached out to Foxx representatives.

“Cameron, I hope you’re not mad that I recorded this, but I can’t go back now,” Foxx tweeted in the announcement. “Had to bring in the GOAT to bring back another GOAT. @CameronDiaz and I are BACK IN ACTION – our new movie with @NetflixFilm. Production will start later this year!!

In the call, “There’s something about Mary,” actress Diaz said she felt “so anxious right now. I’m like pacing the room.” When Foxx pressed her on her mood, she replied, “I’m feeling excited, but I don’t know how to do this, you know?”

Foxx then said he understood and let her know that he had “someone on the other line who can help you with this” before calling Brady in.

“I’m relatively successful in ending my retirement,” six-time Super Bowl champion Brady stated in the recording.

“Honestly…just what I needed,” said a seemingly shocked and admittedly nervous Diaz.

Tom Brady left the New England Patriots in 2020 and later joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers – winning the Super Bowl in 2021.

“Well, guys, I’m going to jump off and let you talk,” Foxx said.

“Perfect,” replied Brady, whose short-lived retirement earlier this year lasted just 40 days before deciding to return to Tampa Bay. “We’ll take it from here.”

Diaz and Foxx previously worked together on the sports drama “Any Given Sunday” in 1999 and the remake of “Annie” in 2014.

No plot details for “Back in Action” have been released, but “Horrible Bosses” director Seth Gordon will also direct the film while co-writing the script with Brendan O’Brien.
