CBS shooting suspect appears in first court

The lone suspect in Thursday’s shooting on CBS appeared in provincial court for the first time this morning.

Matthew Fowler, 31, was quiet and subdued as he was escorted from the cell to the courtroom at Atlantic Place.

The first appearance only took a few minutes to formally read the charges, and he was taken back to prison pending another appearance this afternoon.

Fowler faces at least 15 charges, including gun charges and aggravated assault against one man, according to RNC Constable James Cadigan.

Other charges include assault with a weapon, careless use of a firearm, possession of prohibited or restricted firearms with ammunition, unauthorized possession of a motor vehicle, fleeing from the police and dangerous use of a motor vehicle.

More charges are expected this afternoon involving a second shooting victim.

Both reportedly sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

VOCM will have more details after Fowler’s second court appearance at 2 p.m.
