Colts General Manager Chris Ballard says he can’t read the prep work he’s done on some of the best quarterback prospects.
Although the Colts visited Liberty’s Malik Willis, North Carolina’s Sam Howell and Cincinnati’s Desmond Ridder, Ballard said there is no doubt about the Colts’ dedication to quarterback Matt Ryan.
So why visit the best quarterbacks? Ballard said it’s just part of the fact that the Colts have established before each draft that they’re trying to learn what they can about the best players in the sport’s most important positions.
“Normally,” Ballard said through the… Indianapolis Star† “We’ve done it every year. Agents do a good job of making sure they leak when we do. †
The Colts have selected Sam Ehlinger as the #2 quarterback behind Ryan in the sixth round in 2021, and James Morgan, who has never played in an NFL game, is the only other quarterback on the roster. So it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Colts add another quarterback for training camp, but Ballard’s comments suggest it will be in the late rounds.
The Colts traded their first round pick for Carson Wentz last year. The Colts’ first pick is No. 42, the Commanders’ second pick, which was sent to the Colts when they traded Wentz away after a year.
