Ottawa’s city council meetings, which have been held via videoconference since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, may switch to a hybrid format in January.

City Secretary Rick O’Connor told councilors on Wednesday that staff will make a final decision on personal involvement at the January 26 meeting in mid-January.

A hybrid format would allow councilors to attend the meeting in the council chamber or participate remotely. Most employees would continue to participate remotely. The public could continue to follow the meetings via Rogers TV or YouTube.

Committee meetings would be held via videoconference throughout the winter as staff assess the hybrid format for the council.
