COVID in Ottawa: Three new deaths reported over the weekend

Ottawa Public Health reports three new COVID-19 deaths in Ottawa this weekend.

In Tuesday’s update to the health unit’s COVID-19 dashboard, OPH says 862 Ottawa residents have died from COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.

The number of residents in hospital due to an active infection is decreasing, as is the number of outbreaks in collective housing and hospitals.

The number of residents hospitalized due to an active infection fell to 19 from Tuesday, from 26 on Friday, in the report. Two people are in intensive care.

OPH hospitalization numbers represent only Ottawa residents hospitalized due to an active case of COVID-19. Local hospitals report higher numbers, including patients admitted for reasons other than COVID-19 who tested positive and patients not from Ottawa.

Here’s a breakdown of the number of COVID-19 patients in each hospital:

Ottawa Hospital: 86 patients (versus 89 on Friday)

Queensway Carleton Hospital: 22 patients (less than 28 patients on Friday)

Montfort hospital: six patients (from 11 patients on Friday)

CHEO: Four patients (versus one patient on Friday)

Two new COVID-19 outbreaks have been declared in the past four days, but the total number of outbreaks has fallen to 45 from 51 on Friday.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, there have been 79,751 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa, including 862 deaths. OPH reported 237 new lab-confirmed cases on Tuesday.
