Cristiano Ronaldo is considering a departure from Manchester United this summer due to a lack of successful transfer activities, according to reports in Portugal.

The star striker returned to Old Trafford last summer, 13 years after moving to Real Madrid for a then world record fee, but it was not the glorious homecoming he had hoped for.

Ronaldo scored 24 goals in 38 games across all competitions, but the team struggled to finish sixth in the Premier League amid criticism for his impact on their pressing skills and overall cohesion.

The Portuguese veteran, 37, has a one-year contract left and both he and new manager Erik ten Hag, who replaced interim boss Ralf Rangnick in April, have talked with excitement about a new season after the Dutchman embarks on a team building process.

But despite interest in Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez, Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong and Ajax winger Antony, the club has yet to make a single purchase.

And according to Portuguese outlet Record, a heavily frustrated Ronaldo is poised to leave the northwest side due to their apparent lack of transfer ambition.

And the former Sporting Lisbon and Juventus star has reportedly given the club an ultimatum: ‘up your game or I’ll leave’.

Ronaldo is said to have informed his inner circle that a continued lack of transfers would lead him to look for another club.

He had previously said on United’s website: ‘What I know about (ten Hag) is that he has done a fantastic job for Ajax, that he is an experienced coach. But we have to give him time.

“Things have to change the way he wants. Of course I hope we are successful because if you are successful, all of Manchester will be successful too. I wish him the best.

“We are happy and excited, not only as players, but also as supporters. I wish him the best and let’s believe that next year we will win trophies.”

Ajax defender Jurrien Timber has already turned down a transfer after former United boss Louis van Gaal warned him about it, while Derby youngster Malcolm Ebiowei has reportedly turned down United in favor of Crystal Palace.
