Art lovers have a lot to look forward to in August, including Broadway hits to theater festivals.

Broadway Across Canada – Come From Far

What: come from afar is about the true story of a small Newfoundland town that welcomed the world.

The musical about the extraordinary story of 7,000 stranded passengers and the townspeople who opened their doors to them has won multiple awards, including a Tony, three Drama Desk Awards and four Olivier Awards. Come From Away’s original Broadway cast recording was also nominated for a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album.

Hidden Wonders

What: Hidden Wonders is the next installment of Shawn Farquhar’s Cabaret of Wonders, and the critically acclaimed magic show will be held at a secret location in downtown New Westminster. Shawn is a world champion of magic, has performed at Ellentwice fooled headliners Penn & Teller in Las Vegas fool usand had its magic on shows like Zoom, Napand X files.

Vines Art Festival

What: The eighth annual multidisciplinary Vines Art Festival features more than 100 visual and performing artists in parks across Vancouver, as well as accessible online streaming. The festival showcases and nurtures artists working on land, water and relational justice and features music, dance, drag, storytelling and more.

What: Vancouver Mural Fest 2022 takes place August 4-14, featuring a lineup of more than 150 visual and performing artists creating unique art and interactive experiences. The 11-day celebration includes daily block parties, murals, and new public artwork to discover throughout the city.

After you’ve finished exploring the new artworks, keep the party going by visiting the center of VMF 2022: City Center. The Mount Pleasant monument has been transformed into a community space for art and social connection and will be a jumping off point during the festival.

Bard on the beach

What: Bard on the Beach is one of Canada’s largest non-profit professional Shakespeare festivals. Presented in a beautiful setting on the water in Vancouver’s Vanier Park, the festival features Shakespearean plays, related dramas, and various special events on the BMO Mainstage and the Howard Family Stage through September. This year’s lineup includes: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Haarlem duetand Romeo and Juliet.

Theater under the stars: Something rock! and We will rock you

What: Theater Under the Stars’ (TUTS) season 2022 and 81st year at the Malkin Bowl will feature stunning musical productions from Something rock! and We will rock you. The shows are alternately on evenings until August 27.
