Day one of 4A West Track Regionals is in the books

CASPER, Wyo (Wyoming News Now) — High school athletes are doing their best to peak at the right time for next weekend’s state rally in Casper. This weekend, Natrona County High School was the venue for the 4A West Track Regionals.

Despite some very windy conditions, it didn’t hold up too much of the competition. Natrona County welcomed Riverton and other schools from the west side of the state for the chance to secure a spot at this weekend’s state meeting at Kelly Walsh High School.

One athlete who wasn’t too bothered by Friday’s gusts was Jackson Dutcher, a junior from Natrona County. The Mustang won the boys 800m and finished fourth in the 3200m. The finish of 1:58.90 in the 800m was a personal best for Dutcher.

“I just knew I wanted that PR, and I think it’s just the need,” Dutcher said of how he managed to succeed in the windy weather. “I’ve built up so much momentum over the past few weeks that I’m peaking at the right time.”

Dutcher was awarded two medals for his finishes on Friday and earned a medal for all conferences. That meant carrying a little extra weight around his neck for the car ride home, and he said “it’s a great feeling” when they drape that medal over your shoulders.

“You’ll Remember” [that feeling] probably for the rest of your life, and you know, I want to feel it again in the state.”

A few Natrona County fillies also had big days on Friday. Alesha Lane won the girls’ discus and Delilah Baedke won the girls’ 3200m.

Day two, where many of the finals will take place, will resume on Saturday at 9am
