District 1 Councilor Brianne Nadeau has created a task force to address “violence and vitality” along DC’s U Street corridor.
Recent incidents have included a stabbing on Saturday night and a double shooting on Sunday morning.
“Since my time with the (Advisory Neighborhood Commission), I have worked to support a vibrant U Street corridor that is welcoming and safe to residents, businesses and visitors, and a continuation of the legacy of ‘Black Broadway’,” Nadeau said in a press release. “Clearly we need better coordination and resources to address the serious security issues that persist.”
The task force will be made up of community leaders, representatives from the police, the attorney general’s office and the alcoholic beverages regulator.
“I know we can solve the problems we face,” Nadeau said.
The task force is expected to meet in June and hold a series of meetings.
