Energy Minister urges oil companies to tackle high petrol prices

Biden administration officials took a more conciliatory tone with oil company executives at a meeting Thursday to discuss possible reactions to record high gasoline prices.

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm pressed executives of Exxon Mobil Corp., Chevron Corp., Shell PLC, Marathon Petroleum Corp. and other major oil companies and refiners for their fuel-boosting solutions. But officials didn’t criticize those executives for profit, as President Biden has done in recent days, participants said, leading to more constructive discussions in a meeting that lasted about an hour.
