Girl fatally shot in Wells is called ‘the light of everyone’s life’

The nearly two-year-old girl who was fatally shot in Wells on Saturday is remembered by the family as “the light of everyone’s life”. The agency stated that Andrew Huber Young, 19, is charged with murder. Police also accuse him of shooting two other men whose injuries are not considered life-threatening. Craig Higgins, one of Octavia’s uncles, told WMTW Sunday that Octavia would have turned two in July. Higgins says that the two men who were also shot are Octavia’s father and grandfather and that the alleged shooter is another uncle. Law enforcement officers said on Saturday that the accused gunman is related to the victims, but the Maine State Police Department has not confirmed their exact relationship. “At this time, we will not name the two male victims or discuss the victim’s relationships with the suspect,” the agency said in a press release. State police expect the alleged shooter to face additional charges. The shooting happened at a house on Crediford Road on Saturday afternoon, the agency said. Huber Young turned himself in to Wells Police on Saturday night, police said. He is now being held in York County Jail without bail. A York Hospital spokesman said the girl and two men with gunshot wounds arrived at an urgent care facility in Wells just before 4:30 p.m. Octavia was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland. “The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate the shooting with the assistance of the Wells Police Department,” the Maine State Police said. An autopsy is scheduled for the next few days.
