The Grand Pacific Group has opened their first interstate location, Walter Café, on Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra.
Located in the Marion district, the new site will have 120 seats divided between indoor (80) and outdoor (40) seating.
“We are excited to open the doors to Walter Café and The Marion,” said co-owner Manny Spinola. “The site has been closed for over two years, and a lot of hard
hard work is being done behind the scenes.”
In the kitchen is Chef Matthew Ouwerkerk who brings 15 years of experience from his time in Sydney, Melbourne and London.
“We know diners will love the menu Chef Matthew Ouwerkerk has created, and we look forward to showcasing the region’s incredible local produce in this stylish and elegant space,” said Spinola.
The menu is split into breakfast and lunch options that are available daily.
Items in the breakfast selection can be divided into four sections: bread, eggs, and healthy options, along with side dishes such as potato and cauliflower hash with togarashi.
The main highlights are Alaskan crab omelette, warm ricotta cookies with caramelized wattle seed banana butter and chili scrambled eggs, served with feta and a potato.
Lunch options include small and large plates, burgers, sandwiches, and side dishes.
Guests can order a Wagyu cheeseburger (180g) with maple bacon, the Walter Café Nicoise salad, a shrimp linguine, grilled swordfish or roasted chicken breast.
Dessert items include sticky date pudding, apple-pear crumble with ginger ice cream, chocolate cake and a selection of chef’s petit fours served with tea or coffee.
Spinola is gearing up to launch Manon in Sydney this week, with Lola’s in Bondi last year.
Walter Café is now open for breakfast and lunch from 7am to 4pm.
