A little taste of Singapore has just landed at Stamford Plaza in Melbourne’s CBD. In collaboration with Tanglin, Singapore’s most award-winning gin, Harry’s Jungle Bar was designed to lure Melbournians back to the CBD with a colorful space reminiscent of Singapore’s much-loved Tanglin distillery. Since a little kitsch never killed anyone, expect lots of greenery, appliquéd tigers on the windows and neon pink cocktails.
Bartenders will be swinging Singaporean gin cocktails daily from noon to late, and you can even join a homemade cocktail bar. Experiment with a selection of frozen gins, lollipops and dried fruits to create your own delicious concoction. If you trust more of the pros, try the namesake Harry’s Jungle Juice or the Tom Yum, a twist on the popular Thai dish that combines Tanglin’s classic gin with lemongrass, pepperberry honey and fresh lime juice. And Wednesday through Friday, there’s even a $39, two-hour, bottomless pack of strips.
The menu is further out from Singapore than expected, with Caesar salads, club sandwiches and penne Bolognese on offer. The Jungle Kitchen Plank, which comes with your choice of three items and dips, jumps between continents with offerings such as beef satay, lamb koftas with yogurt dip, and popcorn chicken with chipotle aioli.
