Hidden London underground tunnels open to the public for the first time in a century

Visitors to guided tours will learn how early engineers tried a century ago to cool down the still notoriously hot Central Line, and how the entrepreneurial Tube line introduced the first tickets that could be used interchangeably on trains, buses and trams – the predecessor of modern travel maps and Oysters.

Ms Holloway said the Underground route, London’s third deep underground line, was a commercial success, allowing huge numbers of commuters to travel from the suburbs to the city.
