There are many reasons why someone would want to remove an app from their phone. I like to regularly clean up my app library and remove the apps I haven’t used in a while and don’t expect to use anytime soon. It keeps my phone visually organized and prevents me from having to scroll through dozens of apps.

Deleting apps from your iPhone is also a great way to free up space and keep your phone running smoothly.

When you’re on your home screen, select Uninstall App from the menu that appears. iPhone then gives you the option to delete the app altogether or just remove it from your home screen while keeping it in your app library.

If you try to remove an app from your app library, you will only be asked to confirm whether you want to remove it.

When you delete an app, you can download it again and sign in again in the future, but any information not associated with your login account will also be deleted. So if you’re not logged into an account in an app, like a game, you’ll lose all progress.

There is a way to uninstall the apps you don’t use often without losing the associated data. You can do this by offloading, which basically means deleting an app to free up storage space on your iPhone, without deleting its data and information. Follow these steps to unload an app:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Go to General
  3. Select iPhone storage
  4. Choose the app to discharge
  5. Tap on Offload App

You can also let your iPhone automatically unload unused apps when the storage space is running out.

Sometimes you delete apps on your iPhone only to see them reappear on your screen a few days later, like some sort of nightmare. If this is the case for you, you should probably check that your App Store has not enabled automatic downloads. Proceed as follows:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. To elect App Store
  3. Press Automatic downloads toggle to turn it off

If you’ve ever deleted an app from your iPhone, you may have seen it in your account’s purchased apps list in the App Store. Any apps you ever downloaded with your Apple ID will appear here, the deleted ones will have a cloud icon next to them because they are no longer on your device.

How can you remove these old apps from your Apple account? Just swipe left and a Hide option will appear, tap on it and it will be removed from your account and while it won’t completely remove the app from your purchase history, at least it won’t be downloaded again in five minutes when you sync your iPhone.

Deleting your apps on your iPhone will not delete any backup data in your iCloud. If you want to remove the data and app information from your iCloud backup, you need to open the iCloud settings.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap your name to access Apple ID and iCloud settings
  3. Go to iCloud
  4. Select Storage management
  5. Tap on Backups
  6. Choose the iPhone you deleted the app from
  7. Find the app in the list (select Show all apps If necessary)
  8. Disable the app

If you try to uninstall an app and your iPhone doesn’t allow it, you may have a limitation on what you can do with iTunes and App Store purchases. To fix this go to:

  1. Settings
  2. Select Screen time
  3. Tap on Content and Privacy Restrictions
  4. To elect iTunes and App Store Purchases
  5. Check your permissions to install and uninstall apps and in-app purchases. Make sure that Delete apps Gets up Allow.
