I’ve spent years tracking down historical locations for music photography, here are 71 of the best shots (71 photos)

I have recreated music history by shooting the original images of musicians and bands in the exact location where they were photographed many years or even decades earlier. The project started in 2010 with old family photos and since then I’ve moved into music photography, covering over 500 music venues mostly by sharing my work on Instagram.

I compose each shot with the original image in my hand, aligned (as best I can) with the background as it looks today. I enjoyed walking in the footsteps of some of my favorite musicians, learning more about music history along the way. I like to challenge myself to find each location, so I browse interviews, research the photographers, and research the musicians’ timeline during specific periods. I also comb through Google Maps, sometimes going street by street, exploring locations and trying to match them with the original images.
