Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence, RB Travis Etienne not playing in Hall of Fame Game

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jaguar quarterback Trevor Lawrence will not play in Thursday’s Hall of Fame Game against the Las Vegas Raiders, coach Doug Pederson said Tuesday morning.

Travis Etienne, who missed his rookie season with a Lisfranc injury, will also not play, Pederson said. Etienne will not train on Tuesday due to an illness, but has also been a full participant at a training camp. Pederson said he wants to be careful with Etienne, the 25th overall pick of the 2021 draft.

“Trevor has gotten a lot of great looks in practice here,” said Pederson. “[We] feel he’s in a good place.”

Reserve quarterback CJ Beathard is limited in camp in his recovery from a groin injury sustained in OTAs and will also not play against the Raiders. Jake Luton will start.

“We are still evaluating our roster,” Pederson said. “We have a lot of young guys and a lot of battles that we want to see in game situations.”

Lawrence threw 12 touchdown passes and 17 interceptions, setting a franchise rookie record with 3,641 yards passing as a rookie in 2021.
