James V. Brown Library Hosts Summer Learning Finale with Scholastic Book Fair | News, Sports, Jobs

The two-day event kicks off on August 5 at 11:30 PM and ends at 1:30 PM on August 6. The event is sponsored by Friends of the James V. Brown Library. The James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., will celebrate all children who participated in the summer learning program at a Scholastic Book Fair finale scheduled for August 5-6.

Children who return their bingo sheet (available at any help desk) will receive a voucher for a free book at the library’s Scholastic Book Fair and a sweet treat from Aaron’s Water Ice. Kids who haven’t completed their reading log but still want to celebrate can still buy books and treats.

Children’s books are in the programming rooms on the first floor and the tween/teen/young adults’ books are in the Lowry Room on the third floor. There will be additional fun games and prizes throughout the event, such as a trivia game and scavenger hunt, so be sure to check it out!

The opening hours of the Scholastic Book Fair are:

• 11:30 am to 8:00 pm Friday (Kids First Friday), Aug 5

• 9:30 am to 1:30 pm Saturday 6 Aug.

Additional events planned during the celebration include:

• mr. Music Free Family Show — 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Friday.

• Aaron’s Water Ice — Friday 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the alleyway on Edwin Street.

• Andy Armadillo of Texas Roadhouse with Free Meal Vouchers — Fridays from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.

• Celtic Wood and Wires free family concert — Saturday from 10:30 am to noon in Edwin Street alley.

• Wizard Brent Kessler Family Show — Saturday from 11am to 11:45am.

• Musician Izzy Butters from Uptown Music Collective’s performance — Saturday from 12 noon to 1 pm in the alley on Edwin Street.

The library is the perfect place to cool off after Kids First Friday – families can check out toys from our Toy Lending Library or Board Game Collection to take home for extra weekend fun. The children’s bathrooms on the first floor are available to the public during Kids First Friday.

The event is sponsored by the Friends of the James V. Brown Library.

The Bruine Bibliotheek is part of a national “Transforming Libraries” efforts to raise awareness of the changing role of libraries and the ways libraries are transforming to meet the information needs of their users.
