Joan Mitchell Foundation Announces 2022 Artists-in-Residence

The Joan Mitchell Foundation has named twenty-three artists who will participate in the organization’s artist-in-residence program at the Joan Mitchell Center in New Orleans. Five New Orleans-based artists — Jose Cotto, Josiah Gagosian, Gabrielle Garcia Steib, Karla Rosas and Summer White — were selected for this year’s residencies, joining eighteen artists from across the country who have spent the past two years for the program. were chosen year. The participation of these artists was necessarily postponed due to the Covid-19 crisis, which temporarily halted personal residencies in the center in the spring of 2020. The residencies cover two sessions: Spring-Summer, from May 16 to July 29, and Fall-Winter, from September 6 to February 23 of next year.

The arrival of artists participating in the spring-summer session marks the first return to the campus of artists from outside New Orleans since the pandemic arrived. As of September 2020, the center will only be hosting local artists in residence, with 50 of them being welcomed over the following 20 months.

Residency program participants receive private studio space on campus, support from on-site studio assistants, a $600 monthly stipend, and prepared meals. Those coming from outside New Orleans will receive campus housing and funding for the transportation of materials and artwork. Available to all participants are numerous public programs and professional development sessions, all aimed at providing opportunities for networking, community dialogue, and peer and professional feedback from peers and other arts professionals.
