Eunisses Hernandez, a 32-year-old community activist, is about to become the next representative for District 1 on the Los Angeles City Council.
Hernandez currently leads incumbent Councilman Gil Cedillo 54% to 46%, and while the election isn’t finalized — there are nearly 14,000 ballots left to count in LA County — she has declared victory†
Cedillo, who declined to comment on this story, has not yet conceded the win.
Hernandez, a self-proclaimed abolitionist, walked on a platform that included criminal justice reform.
