Litter of puppies evacuated after fire in DC apartment: 8 people without a home

Five children and three adults lost their homes in a fire at an apartment in Southeast, DC Saturday morning, forcing puppies to be evacuated.

Five children and three adults lost their homes Saturday morning in an apartment fire in Southeast, DC. Other tenants had to vacate the property.

Among the other evacuees? A litter of puppies.

The fire was on the second floor of an apartment building on 18th Street, Block 1500, DC Fire and EMS said in a tweet: and started around 7 o’clock

No one was injured, rescuers said.

The group of puppies, photographed by rescuers, has been removed from the building by their owner.

The fire was confined to an apartment on the top floor.

The Red Cross is helping residents whose homes were damaged by the fire.
