Man Utd sets maximum transfer budget for Erik ten Hag if ‘three signatures accepted’ | Football | Sport

Manchester United have capped their transfer budget for Erik ten Hag at £120 million, according to reports. And although the Dutchman would like three purchases, it is said that he only wants to accept three. The Red Devils are interested in Frenkie de Jong, while Lisandro Martinez and Antony are also associated.

Manchester United know they have a big summer ahead of them.

After losing to Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Lee Grant, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani on free transfers, the Red Devils are determined to improve their squad.

They are poised to make a second offer for De Jong, with Barcelona previously rejecting their opening offer, which was worth close to £52million.

And now The Mirror says the club is working on a maximum budget of £120m this summer.

Previously, the Red Devils have spent more than that. Especially under Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

But with no Champions League football waiting this season, they are now hampered as they finished sixth in the league table below Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

Man Utd Transfers: Erik ten Hag already has his own Darwin Nunez

Ideally, Ten Hag would attract two wing backs, a central defender, a defensive midfielder, a creative midfielder and a striker.

But with funds being tight, it is said that United are now accepting that they have to prioritize certain parts of their team.

And a centre-back, striker and midfielder are now priorities for the Red Devils as they look for a significantly improved season next season.

United would target “less high-profile players hungry for the chance to prove themselves”.

That is in stark contrast to previous years when they went for Galacticos like Paul Pogba, Angel Di Maria, Alexis Sanchez and Radamel Falcao.

De Jong is their main target, although United and Barcelona are reportedly £10m apart in their valuations of the midfielder.

Lisandro Martinez and striker Antony, who played at Ajax under Ten Hag, are also reportedly on the club’s radar.

And now that the United hierarchy is accepting their priorities, it’s going to be interesting to see what deals they can pull off.

United had been in the mix to recruit Darwin Nunez and admired the striker who scored 34 goals in all competitions for Benfica last season.

Yet he is now going to Liverpool, after the Red Devils found his price tag too high.

United supremo Richard Arnold recently told fans in a local pub that the “money was there” to spend on new players.

But the club still seems to be on a tight budget and won’t overpay, something they have been all too happy to do in the past.

Man Utd match schedule: When Erik ten Hag’s team plays against every Eredivisie team

Meanwhile, former United star Patrice Evra has opened up on his old side ahead of the Ten Hag era.

And he insisted the club should have moved to Antonio Conte when they had the chance, before the Italian moved to Tottenham.

“It hurts my heart,” the French international told The Mirror.

“Because I think Conte, Klopp, Guardiola all those managers are the best in the world right now and we could have had him at Manchester United.

“But some people at the club said, ‘It’s not our style, it’s not what we’re looking for.’

,,Let’s see, now we have Erik ten Hag. Let’s see what he’s going to do.

“He has my support. But even if you bring in a chef, as manager of Man United, he would have my full support.”

And specifically about Conte, he added: “It’s a huge disappointment because he could have done something at Man Utd.

“And you can see with Tottenham, he helped them qualify for the Champions League spot.

“They have the same players, that’s why this manager is a genius. When I arrived at Juventus, every player said to me, ‘Patrice, this man is a genius.

“He’s addicted, he’s so passionate about football. So you’re going to run really fast. He’s going to make you sweat.

“But if you look at the Tottenham fans, they are so happy because when they see the players now, win or lose, they give everything. That is Antonio Conte’s mentality.”
