Manchester United announce 11 players to be released

Manchester United have released their saved list for the 2022/23 season, with 11 players set to leave the club at the end of the month.

Erik ten Hag has taken on a tough refurbishment in his first summer at Old Trafford and will have to work to replace some of the stars who are leaving when their contracts expire on June 30.

Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata all confirmed they would be leaving United last week, while fellow first-teamers Nemanja Matic and Edinson Cavani also announced their intention to leave this summer.

Veteran goalkeeper Lee Grant has retired from professional football after 22 years and will go on to coach Ipswich Town, where he will work alongside former United assistant Kieran McKenna.

The Manchester Evening News announced last month that World Cup winner Pogba is expected to return to Juventus as a free agent, while Matic appears poised to reunite with former Roma boss Jose Mourinho.

United have also confirmed that a number of youth team players will leave the club when their contracts expire at the end of the month.

Young striker D’Mani Mellor is leaving the club after more than a decade, while midfielder Martin Svidersky has turned down a new deal at Old Trafford to move to La Liga.

Club sources admit that while United were keen to sign the Slovak to a new contract, there was a feeling he might be leaving for some time this summer. United are expected to receive a small compensation package to recognize their development of the player, despite Svidersky leaving the club as a free agent.

Academy players Reece Devine and Connor Stanley have also left the club, while Paul McShane has retired and will continue to fulfill his coaching role at the academy. Goalkeeper Paul Woolston had to retire in March at the age of 23. Meanwhile, United have extended midfielder Dylan Levitt’s contract for another year, to keep him at the club until at least June 2023.
