Manchester United increase Casemiro’s move and Adrien Rabiot’s bid fails | Transfer period

Manchester United’s bid to buy Adrien Rabiot from Juventus has almost certainly failed due to the midfielder’s wage demands, and Real Madrid’s Casemiro is under investigation as an alternative to bolster this division of Erik ten Hag’s squad.

United had reached an agreed-upon fee of £15million for Rabiot with Juventus, but the 27-year-old’s mother and agent, Veronique, wished he would be paid more than many of the club’s top earners, such as Bruno Fernandes, who about €240,000 per week. This is because the Frenchman will be a free agent next summer.

While the deal may yet be revived, it is considered unlikely by John Murtough, the football director in charge of the negotiations, so his focus is now on investigating a possible move for Casemiro.

The 30-year-old’s contract with Madrid runs until 2025 and would thus cost significantly more than Rabiot’s fee. Whether Casemiro can be persuaded to leave the European champions this season for a squad in the Europa League remains to be seen.

The Brazilian, who would arguably be an upgrade to Rabiot, has capped 63 times and scored five international goals, winning the Copa América in 2019. With Real, Casemiro has five Champions Leagues, three Spanish league titles, a Copa del Rey, two UEFA Super Cups and three FIFA World Club Cups.

Moisés Caicedo is also being suggested as an alternative by the Brighton midfielder’s camp, with United having to judge the Ecuadorian for a potential move.
