Manchester United reject Juventus approach for Anthony Martial

Manchester United have reportedly pushed back Juventus’ Serie A claims for the signing of Anthony Martial.

According to the Daily Mirror, Juventus have identified Manchester United forward Anthony Martial as a potential replacement for Alvaro Morata, who has returned to Atletico Madrid after two seasons in Turin. Massimiliano Allegri has made the in-form French forward his main target, but convincing Manchester United can be a difficult task.

The Red Devils appeared to part ways with Martial this summer, with the attacker failing miserably during his six-month loan spell at Sevilla, where he scored just once in 12 games. Martial’s form prior to that with Manchester United was not too convincing either, and he got into a public altercation with then-interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

However, the arrival of Erik ten Hag seems to revive the Frenchman’s career at Manchester United. Martial was one of the first players to return to the club for the season and has impressed the Dutch tactician with his recent performances.

With Cristiano Ronaldo still trying to leave the club but still looking to rejoin the rest of the squad, Martial blossomed as he led Manchester United’s attack. He started all four of the Red Devils’ friendlies during their pre-season tour to Thailand and Australia, scoring three goals.

Manchester United have reportedly told Martial that he will not be sold this summer and that he will be in ten Hag’s plans for the coming season. Moreover, the possibility that Ronaldo could leave this summer is another reason why Manchester United are reluctant to let the attacker leave.

The 26-year-old had recently fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, following the arrival of Edinson Cavani and Ronaldo. But with the Uruguayan leaving the club this summer and the latest looks set to leave, Manchester United have blocked any possible exit for the Frenchman.

Since joining Manchester United in 2015 as a highly regarded teenager, Martial has scored 79 goals and provided 56 assists in 269 appearances for the club. Erik ten Hag will hope that his confidence in the 26-year-old will pay off. It will be interesting to see who Serie A giants Juventus turn to to bolster their attack.
