BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (WWLP) – Belchertown Police are reminding residents to use the police station to meet people when purchasing items online.
If you’ve made an online purchase and you’re not comfortable meeting a stranger at theirs or at your place, there’s a safe place to barter. Since 2016, the Belchertown Police Department has set up an “Internet Purchase Exchange location” outside their State Street station.
The car park in front of the station is under 24/7 video surveillance, so people making face-to-face exchanges will feel safer doing so.
Police forces in several communities in the area, including nearby Hadley, have set up similar areas at their stations.
