Mitcham Lane: Gunshots fired in broad daylight

Gunshots were fined on a road in Streatham in broad daylight after a car driver argued with two men who had just crossed the road.

The incident happened around 2.50pm on Saturday on Mitcham Road, between Streatham and Tooting.

Police say the driver of a car got into an argument with two men who had just crossed the street.

The driver then got out of the car and fired shots.

Everyone involved then left the scene.

No one was injured.

No arrests have been made and the police investigation continues.

Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call police at 101 or on Twitter at @MetCC quoting reference number CAD 4357/02JUL.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Police are appealing after a firearm was unloaded on the street.

“The incident happened at approximately 2:50 PM on Saturday, July 2, at Mitcham Lane, SW16.

“The driver of a car turned out to have gotten into an argument with two men who had just crossed the street.

“It appears that the driver of the car then got out of the vehicle and fired a firearm.

All parties then left the scene, there are no reports of injuries.

Evidence of a firearms discharge was later recovered by police.

“No arrests and investigations are continuing.
