National Night Out event starts Tuesday – NBC Los Angeles

The annual National Night Out celebrations begin on Tuesday, with several Southern California police departments participating.

Always held on the first Tuesday in August, the event was created to enable communities to build relationships with their local law enforcement and firefighters.

Several LA County communities will host events, including block parties featuring music, food, games, public safety educational exhibits, and more. Law enforcement officers will attend these events to hear from their communities.

Glendale, Chino Hills, Pomona and San Gabriel are just some of the cities that will host events for Night Out.

The day first came about in 1984 after an officer introduced the idea of having a larger celebration between law enforcement officers and their communities. The communities hosted festivals, parades, block parties and more.

The event will be in person and requires registration to participate.
