Netflix drops impressive trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

Netflix is ​​partnering with CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger for the upcoming anime series, Cyberpunk: Edge Runners. The 10-episode series is a spin-off of the 2020 action role-playing video game, Cyberpunk 2077.

The trailer shows off the fantastic visuals and vibrant use of color in full while the images emphasize Night City. David, a street kid who nearly died in a hit-and-run, becomes an Edgerunner, a mercenary known as cyberpunk. To survive, David joins a team of fellow Edgerunners named Maine, Kiwi, Dorio, Rebecca, Pilar and Lucy. Studio Trigger edited the trailer, saying it’s “one of the best in anime” according to Netflix.

CD Projekt Red, which developed Cyberpunk 2077, will produce the series with Rafał Jaki as showrunner. Known for its bold and sparkling visuals, Studio Trigger will provide the animation for the series. The animation studio has produced respected anime projects such as: Killed La Killed and promise. Hiroyuki Imaishi, one of the co-founders of Studio Trigger, is the director of Cyberpunk: Edge Runners.

Netflix is ​​looking for additions to its growing collection of original net animation (ONA). So far, the streaming service has released multiple ONAs in 2022, including: Kotaro lives alone, Thermae Romae Novae, Vampire in the garden, and spriggan. Remarkable, Netflix released Cowboy Bebop in 2021 the live-action version of the well-known Japanese anime series from 1998, and the film in 2021. Netflix canceled the series after one season.
