OGC Nice interested in signing Manchester United full-back Alex Telles this summer

According to Tutto Mercato (h/t Manchester Evening News), Ligue 1 OGC Nice is interested in signing Manchester United left-back Alex Telles to the Allianz Riviera.

The Brazilian fullback came over from Porto to the Red Devils in 2020. The 29-year-old has been playing second fiddle to Luke Shaw in the starting line-up ever since.

With the arrival of Tyrell Malacia, Telles seems to have fallen even further in the pecking order. Playing time is now no guarantee for the Brazilian defender at Old Trafford.

Telles has played 50 times for United since 2020. Because Shaw is injury prone, the Brazilian has been given plenty of opportunities.

But fans are not convinced by the 29-year-old’s performance. The former Porto star has many qualities as he moves forward. The Brazilian makes good crosses and is decent in the last third of the field.

It’s Telles’ contribution to the defense that makes fans want more of him. United’s defensive weaknesses became fully apparent last season when the side conceded 57 goals in the Premier League.

The first major acquisition of Erik ten Hag for the Red Devils was Malacia. The former Feyenoord left-back is a promising prospect. The 22-year-old experienced a lot of first-team football with the Dutch side before moving to Manchester.

Now the gaffer has three options at its disposal. Many fans would find it unnecessary to keep a player like Telles in our books if he probably isn’t on the roster often. But with Shaw’s injury record, it would be wise to have another backup.

Next season will be a long season for us. We play in the Europa League, which will add more matches mid-week. Besides any other competition, the World Cup in Qatar is another consideration for players next season.
