A motorist who was not even insured was caught a hair below double the speed limit on Highway 417, Ontario Provincial Police reported Friday morning.
Members of the Ottawa detachment stopped the Honda at 198 km/h, police tweeted.
The driver was charged with stunt driving, careless driving and working without insurance.
Their driver’s license was revoked and the vehicle impounded, police said, adding #SlowDown.
Drivers charged with stunt driving — speeding at a speed of 50 km/h or more above the limit or 40 km/h where the limit is 80 km/h or less — risk an immediate 30-day license suspension and a 14-day seizure of the vehicle.
Upon conviction, penalties include fines ranging from $2,000 to $10,000, driver’s license suspensions starting at one year before a first conviction, six demerit points, and a mandatory driving course.
