Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres reportedly prefers a move to Manchester United over Tottenham Hotspur.
According to Cadena Ser, Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres is ready to leave the La Liga side this summer with keen interest from the Premier League. Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are both interested in Torres and the defender seems inclined to join the Red Devils.
The 25-year-old was subjected to a €50million offer from Tottenham last summer, which Villarreal accepted. However, the player declined to make the move and remained at Estadio de la Ceramica for another season, which proved to be a successful season for the club. Villarreal reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League this season, where they lost to Liverpool.
Now, however, it looks like the Spain international could be on the move. The report alleges that Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur inquired about the defender’s availability for his representatives, with Manchester United and Tottenham particularly interested.
The Red Devils and Tottenham are offering €50million for the centre-back and believe that should be enough to convince the Yellow Submarine. However, Torres would reportedly prefer a move to Manchester United, as the club ushered in a new era under manager Erik ten Hag. Torres’ entourage could travel to England in the coming days to discuss a possible move with the two interested parties.
Tottenham can offer Champions League football to the Spanish defender, but it appears that the 25-year-old, who has just over two years to go, has his sights set on a move to Manchester United.
Torres, a youth product of Villarreal, was promoted to the club’s first team in the 2019-20 season and has since cemented his place at the heart of their defense. Torres also helped the club win the 2020/21 Europa League, beating Manchester United in the final, the club he reportedly prefers to Tottenham.
At Old Trafford, Torres will face competition from the likes of Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly. But Bailly could leave Manchester United in the summer. The Red Devils have also been linked with a move by Ajax centre-back Jurrien Timber and Internazionale Milan Skriniar, also a target for Tottenham.
