Police arrest driver in Toronto fatal accident

A 30-year-old man has been arrested and charged after a female passenger died in his car in a Toronto accident two months ago, police said.

On March 6, 2022, Toronto Police Department responded to a single-vehicle collision at the intersection of Lake Shore Boulevard West and Jameson Avenue.

Police said a high-speed man was driving a black 2018 BMW M4 eastbound on Lake Shore Boulevard West.

The driver reportedly crossed the western lane and collided with a concrete guardrail.

Police said the driver suffered minor injuries and a 19-year-old female passenger in the vehicle suffered life-threatening injuries and later died in hospital.

Police said Saturday that an arrest had been made in connection with the incident.

The driver, 30-year-old Kumaran Sankarkumar, from Oshawa, has been charged with dangerously operating a means of transport causing death and impaired driving resulting in death.

He will appear in a Toronto courtroom on July 14 via a video link.
