Richard Neutra’s 1962 LA Baldwin Home to List on Sotheby’s

a modernist masterpiece in Los Angeles

A 1962 home designed by modernist master Richard Neutra will soon be up for sale at Sotheby’s. Known largely for his Southern California works, the so-called JN Baldwin House exemplifies the Austrian-American architect’s legacy with its Woodland Hills location. Carefully sited at the end of a long curving driveway on a private hilltop, surrounded by a cluster of lemon and orange trees, the project maximizes privacy. Though nestled away from neighbors, the house opens wide outward through the architect’s signature ribbon windows to distant panoramic vistas.

a Richard Neutra home for the 21st century

Richard Neutra’s Baldwin House is surrounded by a green newly landscaped garden with a large swimming pool and a new bamboo terrace which is accessed through the sliding door of Neutra from the living room. The updated home is lit up at night with freshly updated outdoor lighting.

Inside, the house offers four bedrooms and three full baths. The kitchen was updated in 2020 with appliances from Sub-Zero, Wolf, Miele and Gaggenau, along with sinks and hardware from Julien and Dornbracht. Even Neutra’s original chalk drawings, blueprints and construction book are on display.
