Road closures, TTC service interruptions across Toronto this weekend

There are several road closures and traffic disruptions this weekend as special events and festivals return to Toronto. Here’s what you need to know:

Drive to conquer cancer

Road closures are scheduled for Saturday on Lake Shore Boulevard W. as thousands of cyclists prepare to hit the road for the 15th annual Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer.

The fundraising event for the Princess Margaret Cancer Center returns for the first time in two years. Cyclists will cover more than 200 km from Toronto to Niagara Falls in two days. More than 4,600 cyclists are expected to participate.

The ride starts on Saturday morning at Exhibition Place. The following road closures are in effect:

  • Westbound Lake Shore Boulevard W. from Strachan Avenue to British Columbia Drive at 6:00 AM to approximately 10:30 AM
  • Westbound Lake Shore Boulevard W. from British Columbia Drive to Windermere Avenue at 8:00 AM to approximately 10:30 AM

Also on Saturdays, Lake Shore Boulevard W. will be closed from 5:00 AM to 11:59 PM to vehicles from Second Street to Seventh Street for The Lakeshore Village Grilled Cheese Challenge.

Run for women, Word on the Street

Queen’s Park Crescent E. and W. will be closed to vehicles from College Street to Bloor Street W. Saturday from 12:01 PM to 10:30 AM for the Run for Women event to support the Women’s College Hospital psychiatry department.

Queen’s Park Crescent E. and W. will be closed to vehicles from Wellesley Street W. to Bloor Street W. from Saturday 10:30 AM to Sunday 6:00 PM due to the Word on the Street festival.

Portugal Day Parade

Lansdowne Avenue will be closed to vehicles from Bloor Street W. to College Street on Saturday from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM for the Portugal Day Parade.

Islington Avenue will remain closed to vehicles from Eglinton Avenue W. to The Kingsway until Friday, June 17, for the RBC Canadian Open.


ActiveTO takes place on Bayview Avenue from Rosedale Valley Road to Lawren Harris Square; River Street between Bayview Avenue and Spruce Street; and The Meadoway from Brimley Road to Scarborough Golf Club Road, from 7am Saturday to 7pm Sunday.

Roads within High Park will be closed to vehicles all weekend.

TTC advice

If you’re hoping to avoid the stalemate on the roads and hop on the subway, here are some service advices:

  • There will be no subway service on TTC Line 1 between Lawrence and St. Clair stations all weekend due to the construction of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT by Metrolinx.
  • Service on Line 2 between St. George and Broadview stations will begin at noon on Sunday to allow for jet replacement on the Prince Edward (Bloor) Viaduct.
  • Bay and Sherbourne stations are closed on Sundays.

Some bus and tram routes will also be affected by the events of the weekend:

  • Bus 29 Dufferin and tram 501 Queen run on Saturdays from 6.30 am to 10.30 am
  • The 501 Queen streetcar will also reroute Saturday to accommodate the Lakeshore Village Grilled Cheese Challenge.
  • Buses 19 Bay, 72 Pape, 97 Yonge, 320 Yonge and 172 Cherry Beach will reroute on Saturday due to withdrawals at Queens Quay and Yonge Street
  • The 19 Bay bus will divert from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM
  • The 47 Lansdowne bus, 63 Ossington bus and 505 Dundas tram will reroute Saturdays from 10am to 2pm. During this time, delays are expected on bus 29 Dufferin.
  • 13 Avenue Road and 94 Wellesley have diversions all weekend
