Seabin Device Moves For Better Cleaning Efforts

A device implemented to keep the bay clean is being relocated for better cleaning efforts.

A Seabin was placed in the East Canal Basin on Earth Day and has since collected Styrofoam, plastic bags, beverage containers and seaweed.

Due to the constant collection of seaweed, the Seabin is moved to the port of the Flagship Niagara.

The crew of the flagship Niagara is working with the planning department to collect data on what is being collected in the Seabin.

“We believe the seaweed won’t be as much of a problem there, and there’s a public education component too, as the Bayfront Maritime Museum will include information about the Seabin and the pollution in our lake as part of their educational tours, said Lynn Armel, sustainability coordinator.

The data collected will be used to focus their litter prevention efforts.
