During her very first Saturday Night Live monologue, Selena Gomez checked all the first-timer boxes.
The actress and pop star berated her mother, showed love, made a Miley Cyrus impression and even consulted two legendary SNL comedians, hair Only murders in the building co-stars.
“Don’t trust anyone,” Steve Martin advised her.
“I think Steve used my credit card,” Martin Short said.
Gomez then moved on to a more pressing personal matter.
“A reason why I like to host SNL is that I’m single,” Gomez said as the crowd cheered. “And I have heard SNL is a great place to find romance.
“Emma Stone met her husband here. Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost. Pete – and machine gun Kelly. And since I don’t really want to try the dating apps, I just want to spread it in the universe that I manifest love. And I would like to say that I am looking for my soul mate, but right now I will take everyone.”
But when several cast members took up the offer, the pop singer was less than thrilled with the attention. She turned and ended the monologue with a sing-along that threw it all the way back to her Barney to dawn.
Gomez released her latest EP, Revelation, in 2021. The Spanish-language EP contained singles “De Una Vez”, “Baila Conmigo” and “Selfish Love”.
