SoCal Thunderstorm: Time-lapse satellite images capture massive lightning strikes in Los Angeles and Southern California

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Many Angelenos saw lightning strikes in neighborhoods this week.

Time-lapse satellite images from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration captured the region’s massive lightning strikes.

According to some reports, there were more than 60,000 strikes in or over California on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.

The lightning strikes were so great that two people were struck by lightning. A woman died.

Deaths from lightning are very rare in California.

There have been just nine fatalities in the state since 2006, the first being in 2022.

If caught outside during a thunderstorm, experts recommend getting into a vehicle and not letting yourself out in the open.
