Strange New Worlds Opening Title Series Released

Going bold has rarely looked so beautiful.

Ironically, by being so different from all others Star Trek shows now underway, Strange New Worlds‘heartwarming embrace’ by nostalgia for the original Star Trek is what sets it apart from the pack – and the new opening titles are no exception, a beautiful riff on classic march in shiny new packaging.

Paramount has released the opening title sequence for: Star Trek: Strange New Worldsand they are both fittingly strange and Fittingly famous for a show that relies entirely on the retro aesthetic of the original Star Trek† From Anson Mount’s Captain Pike narrating the classic opening “This are the voyages…”, to the beautiful shots of the Company floating through interstellar anomalies and, really, past some strange new worlds, to the music itself that riffs on the original march theme, these titles are a reminder that this show stands out from the rest of the current ones march body of work to re-embrace the classic feel of the older shows.

There’s so much to love here visually, not just in the Company themselves, but shots of them floating through asteroid belts and through clouds of dazzling stardust that feel incredible reminds me of Star Trek: Voyager‘s opening titlesOr hell, the Company whizzing itself past the screen and feels like a very high budget reimagining of the way the ship would practically scream its way through the original Star Trek opening. And yet it’s not hyperkinetic or anything. It’s… surprisingly quiet? What, because this is the Company, we know it’s an atmosphere that won’t last long. But for now we can simmer in the beauty and relaxation of going bold before all the explosions and phaser beams start blaring.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds begins streaming on Paramount+ May 5.
