Lobster and champagne – a perfect combination of food and drink

So what should we know about this new bar in Harrods?

This is the latest in a flurry of new openings and activities at the Knightsbridge store, which are hitting the heels of Harrods’ Angelo Musa pastry shop and Jimmy Choo cafe openings. It’s the largest free-standing Champagne House champagne bar in Europe with 34 seats at the counter and tables scattered around the bar (including some great tables for people-watching by the window).

Where is it?

You will find the bar on the ground floor of the store, at the rear next to Kylie Cosmetics. Entrances 2 and 2a are the closest and from there it is fairly well signposted.

Where should we sit?

If you’re in a group, the window tables overlooking Basil Street are probably best – otherwise it’s at the bar. That said, we found that the ends of the bar are designed so that they would be great for a group of four (see photo below).

So what’s on the menu? Champagne of course…

By the glass, bottle and magnum, this is a place to delve into the cellars of Moet with everything from a glass of non-vintage champagne for £16 to a 1959 Grand Vintage Magnum for £4,400 on offer.

But there’s also a pretty tempting snack menu, most of which we tried.

must et chandon champagne bar at harrods reviewNot Another Faux Pas (£10) – a really reasonable alternative to any meaty pate, let alone foie, this was made with mushrooms, rhubarb and ginger and served with gold leaf, of course.

Is there anything else we need to know?

This is a bit of a left field, but we did notice how low the calorie count was on all the snacks here. The lobster bites are 81 calories and most dishes are less than 400 calories. If you fancy a drink and a snack and still want to fit into that body con Mugler dress or Celine suit you’ve been looking for, this might be the perfect place for you.

General thoughts:

We quite like a good bar in the shop (more of our favorites can be found here) so the arrival of a pretty nice new champagne bar that you can easily dive into is something to cheer about. Sure, it’s an expensive treat, but if you’re already shopping in Harrods, we assume the cost of a glass of fizz isn’t something that will put you too much stress.
