This is why so many trees fell in Ottawa during a hurricane-like weekend storm

Last weekend’s storm, which created hurricane-force winds in excess of 75 miles per hour, damaged and uprooted thousands of trees in the Ottawa area. The extent of the damage left many wondering how so many trees succumbed to the storm. According to a Tree Canada arborist, trees can tolerate a certain amount of wind and will bend accordingly. However, he added, trees are unable to absorb and dissipate the energy from the weekend’s sustained and gusty winds.
