Turner wants DOJ to ‘tell’ us reason for FBI raid
House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Mike Turner demands to know the basis of the national security threat that led to the FBI raid on Donald Trump’s home.
Turner said Trump has “more classified information in his head than in his desk”. However, the Justice Department claimed there was an “immediate” need to enter his residence.
“We demand disclosure to this committee of what the national security base was that was an apparent imminent threat that required this action, as opposed to any actions they could have taken,” Turner said at a news conference on Friday.
Amid reports of possible nuclear weapons documents in the Trump house, Turner said “it depends on what the nuclear information is.”
“You can say nuclear weapons, but there are things that are very, very classified,” he said. “There are things that are not extremely classified, but still classified.”
He said there are “a number of things that come under the umbrella of nuclear weapons” that are not necessarily “really classified” and therefore do not pose a threat to national security that would justify the FBI raid.
Turner said that if these documents reach the level of national security threats that warrant the immediate need to enter Trump’s house, “just tell us.”
He called on U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, FBI Director Chris Wray, to come before the commission to disclose the “rational answers” to the raid and the threat to national security.
Turner also said there is a higher level of scrutiny when dealing with Trump as he is a past and possible future political opponent of President Joe Biden.
