United Way distributes books to more than 700 children

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — United Way of the Coastal Empire on Friday distributed books to more than 700 children at 11 locations in Bryan, Effingham and Liberty Counties.

In addition to distributing the books, volunteers also read to children at some locations.

The distribution of the books has been made possible through a partnership with the Summer Food Programs offered by the schools in the above provinces.

The summer reading program is part of United Way’s Read United initiative. An important focus of this initiative is closing the reading gap for low-income households. You can read more about the initiative by clicking or tapping the link here.
