Viral TikTok videos show neighbors arguing over parking space

“This is my insane neighbor who is standing in front of my car right now and won’t let me park in front of my house.”

Thus begins a series of TikTok videos describing a conflict over a parking lot in suburban Vancouver this weekend.

In the mundane but heated incident captured by user @jaderonni, she is blocked from a street parking spot by a couple who are furious with her for trying to park in front of their house. Her house is across the road, steps from the parking lot.

“They don’t want me to park here, but I’m going to park here,” she says in the video, laughing at the situation. “They are so angry and miserable, I don’t know why.”

She ends up blocking the street for more than half an hour, she notes, while the police are called in to resolve the situation. She claims that the angry neighbors have five cars that they always park nearby.

“So they try to bully me, which they do to every neighbor,” she says. “They leave nasty notes on every neighbor’s car and swear by people not to park in front of their house.”

In the final video, a Vancouver police officer arrives and explains that if the parking lot is empty, @jaderonni will be allowed to park on the spot. He says they should call the city bylaws if they want to change the rules.

“She parks here. It’s too late,” said the officer. “She can park wherever she wants.”

In the comments, @jaderonni explained a bit more.

“The police came and told them they committed a crime of forced incarceration by not letting me move. I parked where I wanted to park,” she writes.

The five videos have gone viral on the platform, with over 16 million views. Curiously, TikTok tagged the second video with a comment that the activity in the video “could cause you or others to get hurt”.
