Those looking for a realistic experience of what it’s like to be in space don’t need to look much further than a new attraction coming to Tacoma.
THE INFINITE is a virtual reality experience that allows 150 people to visit the International Space Station at the same time without physically making the journey to space.
The INFINITE opening is on Wednesday, May 25 at the Tacoma Armory, 1001 S. Yakima Ave., with time slots starting at 12:00 PM.
The attraction builds on the virtual reality series called “Space Explorers: The ISS Experience”. During the trip, people will have the chance to experience the life of an astronaut on the ISS, which has been visited in real life by only 250 people.
In a statement from THE INFINITE, PHI studio founder and chief creative officer Phoebe Greenberg described the inspiration behind the space adventure.
“THE INFINITE experience is unlike any other exhibition that explores space. We took the approach of extensively substantiating the visitor experience with exclusive content created in virtual reality by Felix & Paul Studios aboard the ISS and not centering the exhibit around artifacts from space exploration,” said Greenberg. Using architectural design, free-roaming technology and artwork commissioned by Japanese artist Ryoji Ikeda, we were inspired by humanity’s global fascination with space, integrating a poetic point of view of the astronauts.”
THE INFINITE offers many experiences, including a feeling of weightlessness caused by the LED ceiling and mirror floor. There are also installations by the Japanese artist Ryoji Ikeda.
Tickets are available now and can be purchased at theinfiniteexperience.world. Prices range from $15-$48. The experience is available for those ages 8 or older and is wheelchair accessible. The exploration takes approximately 60 minutes and participants are required to wear a face mask.
THE INFINITE will be open in Tacoma for a limited time as part of a multi-year, international tour running through 2026. This is only the third location for THE INFINITE, behind locations in Houston and Montreal, Canada.
The experience is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 10am to 7pm and Friday and Saturday from 10am to 8pm. Tuesday it is closed.
