Yankees pass Dodgers as MLB’s most hated team, predicted to win World Series over Los Angeles – NBC Los Angeles

Last August, we wrote that the Los Angeles Dodgers were voted the most hated team in all of Major League Baseball over the New York Yankees and Houston Astros.

Almost 10 months later and things have changed.

According to BetOnline.ag, the same sports betting website that spent months tracking Twitter data to select the Dodgers as America’s most hated team last fall, the Yankees have now passed the Dodgers with domestic disdain.

Since the start of the 2022 MLB season, BetOnline has continued to track data on Twitter using high-tech software that detects trends, anomalous terms, geotags, hashtags and direct keyword associations related to MLB teams across the league. Recently, they released the numbers and revealed the top 10 most hated teams in the MLB list.

The Yankees now top the list at number one, followed by the Dodgers and then the Astros. In recent years, those three teams have taken turns taking the top spot as the league’s most hated team.

Rounding out the top 10 are the Phillies, Cubs, Red Sox and Giants. The full list of the top 10 most hated MLB teams is below:

  1. New York Yankees – 6766
  2. Los Angeles Dodgers – 5618
  3. Houston Astros – 4865

Of course, BetOnline is a sports betting website and they also have bets on the 2022 World Series. The Dodgers are the overall favorites to hoist the Commissioner’s Trophy at the end of the season with 5 to 1 chances, but the Yankees are not far behind with 9 to 1.

However, according to the same BetOnline software that selected them as the most hated baseball team based on Twitter data, the social media giant also believes the Yankees will win the World Series in 2022.

Using geotags and analyzing over 120,000 tweets containing keyword phrases like “who will win the World Series” and “World Series champions,” the team most associated with those phrases is the Yankees.

Admittedly, geographic locations in the United States dictated some of those results. In the southeastern US, the reigning champion Atlanta Braves dominated the conversation about who will win the World Series in 2022. (According to BetOnline, the Braves have an 11 to 1 chance this season.

The western United States selected the Dodgers and the Yankees had the most support in the Northeast, North and even far into Alaska!

Below is a breakdown of how states selected who they believe will win the 2022 World Series:

  1. New York Yankees – 14 States
